Karen combines her skills, talent and passion in her work as a remedial teacher. She qualified decades ago, and over the years she has continually improved and upgraded her skills through constant research and by attending conferences and courses (most recently in London). She has become an acknowledged expert in teaching struggling children to read. Karen has worked at many primary schools in the Cape Town area, most notably Kronendal, Llandudno, Mountain Road and, most recently, Herzlia Constantia, where she worked for twenty years.

She worked with children on a one-on-one basis, assisting them in language work and mathematics. Her great love was, and remains, teaching them to read and rejoicing when she saw them succeeding and growing in confidence. When working with a child, she first assesses their strengths and weaknesses. She then tailors an individual programme that will build their skills, improve their self-esteem and set them on the road to success for life.
